Does the Burka restrict the freedom of women, or does the illegality of wearing a Burka in certain countries actually restrict their freedom?

discuss.

From a western perspective, yes. But from a cultural point of view, it's a traditional custom that should be respected....

on a more serious note though, the burka doesnt restrict the freedom of women, its things like sharia law and other laws regarding the burka that restrict women's freedom. whether you want to wear something or not should be your choice

No it doesnt restrict the freedom of women. Musilim females who wear the burka chose to wear it. clearly the main reason is to cover up their body and that is a valid point.
What do guys think of as soon as they see a girl in a bikini.......
soo maybe these women who cover up want to prevent being seen and thought of in the way that those other girls are seen as.
so what if they wear a burka, its not harming anyone. cant someone live their life according to their religion. people these days judge others on absolute bs. ok the middle east has created a bad name for itself over the past years and okay that some horrible stuff has happened concerning "muslims" BUT that does not give everyone the right to start discriminating against all "muslims".
BTW those stupid terrorists and the taliban are not considered muslim because in islam it is not NOT acceptable to kill lives.
i may not have a strong point but im just sick of all these bs excuses that the burka does this and that blah blah. WHY wasnt this a issue before 9/11 and before the cronulla riots because of a few devasting incidents caused the world to think bad of the middle east and "muslims"

Stg2012 - please be quiet. No one care what you have to say, and none of that was even relevant to it restricting their freedom.
Also, it's part of the middle eastern culture, not the islamic religion according to the Qur'an. Hijaabs(sp?) should be enough.

It'd be so cool to have a feature that blanket ignores all users with < X post count and < Y month old account (where variables can be set by user).

Also allowing for exceptions and shit.

Why must women cover up?
Shit cunt men should control themselves and keep their pee pee in their pants.

Some women don't have the choice whether they wear the burka or not. Some shit cunt middle eastern countries still rule under islamic law, and it is illegal to not fully cover up.

I think it is oppressive. I don't think there is a need, or cause to completely cover yourself. What are you hiding from? Showing more than your eyes or face isn't immodest at all.

I don't get it.

I have friends who are forced by their shit cunt fathers to wear burkas. It's not really their choice. It's their family most of the time, and they'd probably get honour killed or something if they did otherwise.
Omg, you're showing your calves- that's instant shame to your family!!!11 Stone her to death! [Okay, i'm being a bit melodramatic]

It reaps no benefits imho, and it's impractical with the Australian climate.

Yeah, back in the day, it might have been a good idea to hide everything but your eyes, but times have changed now, and showing your ankles *shock horror* isn't going to do anything.

Women in burqas are the worst fighters. Too many blindspots. I'd imagine the women's division of boxing in Muslim countries would look kinda retarded. First one to swing a hook wins...
