FREE LAPTOP.
(Just in case you don't venture into the News section of the site)

Every NSW public school student in years 9 to 12 will get a laptop they can keep when they leave school... Ms Firth said NSW would now begin rolling out mini-laptops in the state's schools by the middle of next year... Next year NSW would begin rolling out lightweight, three-quarter sized laptops to the 197,000 students in years 9 to 12... The computers would connect to a wireless system, which will be installed in every school... As part of the program, the students would be allowed to keep the laptops when they finished high school... "It is going to be security coded so every student will have their own ID," she said... The roll out would cost $2,245 per student, Ms Firth said.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH

Gotta say..sounds good. BUT...you'll notice it says at some point "half the schools will receive theirs by end of 2nd term". now if i know government..that means that the other half wont get them until end of third term...when we're basically finished. Will we get them at all? we shall see

$2245 can get me a intel quad core 2.0 along with 4GBs of ram and a 9800 512mb as well as a motherboard with a bus speed of approx 1.6ghz+

but we're gonna get some shitty core 2 duo 2.0 with like 2gbs of ram and integrated graphics

why not just give us $2245 to buy a laptop...

$2245 for a mini-laptops? What the hell? Not even if you include logistics and all that, should the cost amount to that much. :speechless:
This is to help cover teh sh*t load of problems they've had with the program, infrastructure, advisors/consultants, experts, on going staff, development of the restriction software, integration with the schools IT system, etc.

That's a very good point...

A VA student might need to use a graphics program like Photoshop or Maya, where the superior equipment would be much more efficient (Photoshop uses up RAM like the world's about to end - it's a rather heavy program).
