I'm considering buying a civic sport sedan late in the year, I would much prefer the cooler UK model civic hatch, but that only comes with a gay torqueless 1.8L engine not the much beefier 2.0L (the more torque the better especially with automatics :D ).
I read somewhere that it'd cost $35k+ for the Euro hatch if they were imported by Honda into Australia.

There's something I didn't quite like about the Corolla... it felt really cheap inside despite not being so cheap. Nonetheless, it's a very reliable and practical car- and I'd imagine people buying the Sportivo model, aren't buying it for it's interior.

How can you guys afford $30k cars

On the topic though, a Honda loving friend of mine test drove the Civic and was alittle disappointed.... the newer ones look abit bigger and are only powered by a 1.8L engine.... seems alittle underdone?

I shall post pics up next week :)

As for the 2.0L... I read somewhere that the 2.0L in automatic takes 9.9seconds 0-100 whereas the 1.8L in manual only takes 9.7~ but to me, performance isn't that much of an issue.
Just a sidenote, don't fall into the trap of using just 0-100 times as the sole yardstick for perfomance. A S2000 might have a relatively fast 0-100 but in real life its performance under 6000rpm (which means 99% of the time) is MUCH MUCH slower than a base model Ford Falcon XT which has a worse 0-100 time. Why? Because the S2000 has no torque, and with its peaky engine below its its optimum VTEC powerband, its power is only theoretical and non existant in real life (since you would have to never get out of first gear around the suburbs in order to feel any sort of sustained VTEC powerband).

A much fairer comparison would be overtaking ability such as 80-120 km/hr roll on, and manuals are always gonna be faster than autos in the standing start (especially in revvy cars) since they can be revved up and clutch dumped unlike the autos.

I agree with you there supercharged on the 80-120km/h, but the 0-100 is still a classic measure which is usually easily available (whereas finding the 80-120 figures are considerably more difficult). On a sidenote, when testing the Civic today (as I said earlier), the 80+ acceleration was surprisingly good (maybe I'm just comparing to the Terios) and I still remember feeling like I was piloting some kindof spaceship LOL.

My car only "just" reached that "$30k car" bracket you mention- in fact it was exactly $30,000 ($29,500 OR with 5 year warranty/NRMA RA/etc..), but added $500 for the spoiler.

Maybe I'm just used to driving really slow/shitty cars and have no real desire for good performance just yet.

For 30k, one can get themselves an E34 BMW M5.

Reliability issues and high maintenance costs, are a given. Naturally.

Uhhh.. You're on your Ls, you're only allowed to go to 80?

ZOMGGGG Take me to test drives Jeff!!

Only problem with the Honda was the cost of accessories... as nice as the body kit may be, I'm not paying $2600 for it.
Ehehehehe but you're not paying for it X] but yeah, it doesn't need a bodykit.. just weighs the bloody car down

Well you can't measure it's total capabilities by just how many ccs it is.. my old corolla was a 1.8L but only produced 88kw, whereas this 1.8L produces 103kw.. true in size difference, but I don't think it should be affected that much? Especially in the base model when it doesn't have much to be weighed down with..

Yeah, the Civic seems to be a car quite suited to normal highway driving (90-120km/hr speeds).. the revs aren't particularly high and it sustains itself well.. Whereas your Terios is uhhh, probably suited to metro areas where you speed up to 20 and have to stop X]

Dude, you're talking to someone who's still on his L plates here.. Even when he does get his Ps, he won't be able to drive one of those things (restrictions)

if u still can, try and get the Holden Astra Classic - brand new of course. Nothing beats it for value! The engine is pretty awesome in manual.

Geez, you guys have lots of restrictions, don't you? I thought it was just V8s and forced induction. The E34 M5 is a six-cylidner.

I can't drive manual *gasp*...

But yeh, the Civic looks nice and suits my needs. I'd ask q's about upgrading bits but I thought I might as well ask on a dedicated Civic site (eg. 8thcivic.com)-

Hey Ciel, you might know this one... does it have 4 or 6 speakers? I thought I counted 6 (there looked like 2 on the dash under the windshield as well as 2 on the front doors and 2 in the rear)... either way, I'm planning to do quite a bit of an upgrade once I pass first service.

The truth about the Terios hurts. One day I gotta let you try driving it to see what you have to say... now that I go back to driving it for a week, I'm scared shitless when I turn corners. The slightest indentation in the road bumps the car a surprisingly large amount- enough to make me tap the brakes and slow down.

And not sure if you'd wanna go on test drives with an L plater... I blame my cousins influence on my driving- I used to be conservative!

PS. I uploaded the photos from the dealership of the exact car I am buying (http://jace88.atspace.org <-- under the Honda section)- the black one happened to be the one in their showroom; and no more black VTi-Ls were coming for a couple of months.

Hmm despite the advertising saying 4 speakers, both the dealer, and an audio specialist I went to today said there are 4 + 2 (tweeters). Hmm... *shrugs*

Anyway, photos @ http://jace88.atspace.org under the Honda Civic VTi-L in "Delivery of the Civic"! :D

VTEC has a very smooth power delivery compared to my Terios... not sure if that's the transmission or the engine, but either way, I'd imagine the torque curve is a lot smoother.

And... thanks for saying I look dicky >__> I wanted P plates inside my car because after seeing what happened at school (ie. ppl nicked each other's P Plates) I figured putting it inside the car would solve that problem. I'll take the other things you said (in the previous post) as a compliment; but no I'm not rich...
