Is orientation compulsory?

I've got work on Friday, and I need to know whether or not I should call in sick.
Does anyone know what actually happens?

thanks

Not compulsory, but highly recommended.

Its basically a tailored day set up by students to introduce you to the uni and procedures at uni etc

What do you mean by procedures? Like how the assessment system works etc?

I seriously would go... I had to give up a day of work to go last year but it was seriously worth it... I met a girl who I shared 3 subjects with and we ended up having study groups, found out the procedures with assessments etc. Just go... it's only one day... and having a mentor could be really useful... unfortunately my mentor was an absolute dud, but the majority are great.

So what time should we get there? The website says registration begins at 8:45am but does this mean nothing will start to 9:30?

8.45-9 is a good time to get there, I know a few groups are doing things as part of the registration so you won't be sitting down bored :)

Psych, Ling and Teaching tomorrow, cya there :)

I went to the Human Sciences (psych) one today, which was pretty awesome :) All the MQ students were incredibly helpful and nice, and it was a great way to become more accustomed to the uni. During the initial lecture sessions, we had a few random outbursts of entertainment from the students (kudos especially to the guy who dressed up as a pirate :p ) which broke up the blocks of info quite nicely.

So yeah... I'm really happy I went :D

AsyLum, were you taking one of the groups today?

Where are you coming from? I'm coming from Pymble
It's really really bad but 7 might be overkill.
I really don't know what time to leave though.
If it's raining you gotta leave earlier cos its gets worse.
I work down that way and the traffics still bad at 9.30ish...takes me around 30 mins to get from Pymble to the small line of shops on Lane Cove Rd/Mona Vale Rd.

I don't think it's too bad from like Terrey Hills to West Pymble...it's past that that starts getting really bad. Although if it's raining sometimes at like 8ish I look out my window and I can see that traffics banked.

But yeah 7.30 should be ok for you.

I'm attending the Busi Eco one on Friday. Dang 8.45 is soo early. What happens if we come late o.o ?

Oh and I have a question: I'm doing B Applied Finance / B Eco, so what area of study am I considered to be under? Finance or Economics? The reason why I got sort of lost on enrollment day =[
