Where can u keep up to dateLexicographer said:a) Yes the Pope can retire, but this would not happen if the Pope had full mental capacity in which to carry out his duties.
b) Praying for the Pope's recovery is not foolish. After all, if there's one thing that can prompt a miracle it's the prayers of 1 billion Catholics - but only when their prayers are in accordance with the will of the Holy Spirit.
c) The Pope is not yet dead. I've been watching the reports all morning, and there has been a LOT of (presumably unintended) misinformation floating around. When he's dead, we'll know.

Fox News is doing continuous live coverage, if you have Foxtel and want instant updates.

My dad was a priest. He applied to Rome to leave the priesthood and left. He got a confirmation letter back about 10 years later. So he is officially not a priest in any sense. Whether this is typical or not im not sure.. but there are definately avenues to officially sever ones ties with the priesthood.snapperhead said:Kind of like a Catholic priest who quits the priesthood. They are still a priest (with regards to absolution, transubstantiation etc) as vows like that cant really be broken

No, he cant. Not officially.snapperhead said:you misssed my point.
He may have left the priesthood but he still has the "ability" (bad choice of words but) to perform certain rituals (like the ones I listed) if he chose to (which Im guessing he wouldnt as it would invalidate the reasons ofr leaving)
never said officially (especialy in a religious context)..just that he has the ability as it cant be "taken away"absolution* said:No, he cant. Not officially.
