Is somebody able to provide me with a list of the service department? (Longlife, general merch, produce, etc)
The page in the workbook was torn out because it was on the other side of something I needed to hand in :(

Also, can you please list all of the positions (STM,CSM, SM, etc etc). I'm still new so any heads up will be nice.

SM - Store Manager
STM - Store Trading Manager (second in charge of the store) Larger stores have STM-Longlife and STM-Fresh Foods
SSM - Store Services Manager (third in charge of the store)
DM - Duty Manager (in charge of the store in absence of the above positions)

CSM - Customer Service Manager

A few other positions that aren't in store:
HRS - Human Resources Specialist
HRO - Human Resources Officer
SSS - Store Services Specialist
RSM - Retail Support Manager
TSM - Trade Support Manager

There are probably more, but can't think of the off top of my head!

edit: another one is RITIC - Regional IT Implementation Coordinator
and LPI/LPO/LPM - Loss Prevention Investigator/Officer/Manager

I worked on Sunday evening (4-9) and wrote down my shifts on the paper for my department as I'm still new, so no finger scanner for me just yet. Problem is, I remember talking to a new guy there and probably got distracted and not sure if I wrote the right hours. I remember signing it, and writing hours, not sure if I actually wrote the correct hours though.

Does this mean they legally don't have to pay me? I'm aware if I don't sign in they don't but if I accidently wrote the wrong hours, can they not pay me?

They will want to pay you the correct amount for the hours that you worked. If you worked your rostered hours 4-9, and signed the emergency sign on sheet 4-9 then you will be paid correctly. If you worked your rostered shift 4-9 but wrote down say 3-9, this will come up on the exceptions report the next morning, and the dept manager will have to find out what hrs you actually worked. If there is a major issue we usually call people to clarify. But in your case your supervisor probably knows how long you worked, and would just sign off on 4-9. If I were you I would just check my payslip hours to make sure I was paid correctly. If you have been under or over paid, you need to resolve it asap with cash office staff.

Perishables - Eggs, milk?
Deli - Meats and stuff
Produce - Fruits/veg

And that's basically all the departments we'll need to know when calling for assistance at front end (I think?)

Bakehouse- Bread, Cakes
Perish - Dairy Case, meatx, milk, Frozen food, Eggs
Service Deli - meat that is wrapped in paper, salads, specialty cheese, BBQ Chicken etc
Meat Unit - Butchered meat eg, mince, steak, lamb chops, pork, etc
produce - fruit /veg, nuts
Longlife/ General Merch - everything else, all the dry goods, edible and non edible, eg, cereal, soft drink, chips, pasta, cleaning products, shampoo, dvd's etc.
It can take a while to learn which specific products belong to which depts, but most service supervisors know, thats why they announce service calls.

Happening up the front at our store too. Shifts are dropping like flies.
We are now 1 man down for the entire day. It's Bullshit.

1 man down all day? Our store's pretty much like that permanently. Last Sunday we were 5 down at 17:00.
It's really frustrating. If our store is concerned about losing sales, wouldn't it make sense to work out why and try to fix it? If you saw the lines in our store over the weekends you'd know exactly why :S You need to spend money to make money.

i hate when my manager calls me to do extra shifts cos she knows ill say yes. all these night shifts at work have tired me out, im going to fail hsc for sure cos i spend more time working during the week then studyingt

Is it like this depending on the CSM? Cos at my store we're always either 1 or 2 people up (over forecast) either that or exact (not under or over forecast). But my old one we where 1 to 2 down. Or is it the amount of money stores make that influence the rosters?

they know your working and doing your shifts if your new cos you have a sign in/ sign off sheet until you get a id number for the finger print scanner. you should have this in the next few weeks, just re-check your shifts on the roster like double check them to see if they are correct, just write the time you start and the time you are finished your shift, even if its a bit over the time your shift is supposed to finish.

Recheck your shifts on the roster every day you work like before u start or after u finish.

Our store was the first store to get the new trollies in New Zealand today. Apparently we are the trial store for these new trollies. Eh, they're not that great, they are more narrow but they are deeper. We had 130 - took me and the Store Manager 45 minutes to unload them 4 at a time lol

I suppose it doesn't matter now but do you remember what any othe the other options were? I started working just after Wowpos came out in my store and I think it's pretty good!... never got to experience the keyboards :)

Myer is about to get brand new registers... finally!
Umm there were a couple of other good ones, another touchscreen, but was much slimmer, white and around the same size with integrated scanner and scales but wasn't IBM.

A screen with hard buttons, so had numbers and and like cash, eft etc buttons.

A touch screen and hard buttons so you could use both (from memory this was trialed in a shitload of stores as that's what they wanted because of feedback from employees being able to have hard buttons and touch screen)

Another version of the keyboard with a bigger screen and better customer display

There was a couple others but these were the one i remember.

Well, my store has changed dramatically in the past two/three years I've been there. When I started, 5pm wasn't really a rush period and the shopping centre carpark was full during peak hour but not full of cars circling the place finding one. Only time it ever got seriously busy was the days before Good Friday and Christmas. Now in 2009, queues are massive during the weekday, despite six self serves, it took me ten minutes to get through a checkout today and I wouldn't be surprised if we make just shy of $1m of turnover a day (We made it once on an ordinary day). Anyone noticed that the trends in their store have changed for better or for worse?

I think for a register the full touchscreen is the best idea because it allows them to update it and change buttons whenever they like. And you don't need heaps of buttons because the screen can do different functions by changing what's on the display!
