thank you so much!!hey, I’m a current Ruse student. What I’ll say is that usually regarding people who transfer this late, only like 1 or 2 of them historically have gotten like the 99+ atar/High demand universities. But these transfers are usually people who are duxes of their school. Not to mention that if you came from a school lower than top 10 selective schools, the chance of you coming on top is extremely slim unless you’re from a private school which is your case right now.
Now I’d say if you’re in rank 30ish, it might be very hard competing with them because they’re very accelerated not to mention that they curb a lot of students from taking subjects based on your mark and ranking. So if there’s a subject you really enjoy doing, but you’ve gotten low, you’re most likely be discouraged heavily from taking it (I.w through emails to your parents, etc.) Also, I’d say it’s very competitive so coming in the top 10 ranks is so hard itself already for people who got in through the selective test.
In terms of leadership, once again there’s a very slim chance, I’m sure you’re a great leader, but I mean the students would vote for someone they’ve known very well or like, once again this could be you, but historically, the chances are extremely slim. I’d say that having leadership qualities is incredibly good and enhancing for your CV or academic profile when you apply to uni. Given that you have leadership positions at your school, I’d say your school is better for that aspect.
If you have problems at your current school with friend groups, of course we have good and outgoing people in James Ruse too and you have friends there-too which are great, but there are-many cases where lots of transfers for year 11 entry-feel outcasted or like excluded mainly cause Ruse is quite close with each other, so it might not provide a better social position for you than your old school, but once again who knows?
In terms of Chinese, I’m pretty surethere’s a thing called School of Languages so you’d have to take it outside of school. I’m not taking a language but I’m pretty sure that if you don’t get high enough as in like no A, you’ll be deferred from taking that language and you’ll have to take a new subject. I think it’s quite draining personally from what other people say, like having to go in and out of the school and spend external time studying for it.
Overall, given that you’re at a top girls private school, I feel like that itself is a good school. Personally I wouldn’t see a need to change schools especially when our school has been steeped lately, and also given the fact that people from our school literally transfer to private schools and that some people who got offered Ruse in selective literally still chose private schools.
Your position (academic and extra curricular wise) seems great already, I feel if you transfer, you won’t have these positions of extra curriculars, because the rate of admission is low. Not to mention that you might feel overwhelmed with the social and academic pressure, because a lot of year 11 transfers feel overwhelmed or burnt out which is mainly the reason why historically a lot of transfers don’t end up getting too great of a score or the uni they want.
Socially, Ruse might offer some advantages but usually friend groups, etc might find it hard to accept transfers except some nice groups, ofc., and I won’t be dishonest, I’ll say there are some stigmas against transfers amongst the cohort. This is also the reason why I didn’t want my sister to transfer because I’ve seen myself where people get depressed/feel so isolated from transferring. Obviously, this might not be the case for you, but adjusting is a hard task. I don’t name drop but there were A few cases where people who ended up transferring to our school, transferred back to their old school because of the immense pressure.
Also, I feel that the best transfer years would be in year 9/10, because there you have a lot of time to focus on your social life and extracurricular as well given the HSC is much further than if you are already dropped into Ruse year 11 life. Year 9 transfers usually fit in well because they’re a whole class so they can get along with each other well and there have been good chances of them being elected to leadership positions.
Given the extreme focus on academic in year 11, you might not have too much of a strong social life, it could end up being worse then your current position, but once again I wouldn’t know. Sorry for this long ass message, but I’d say on a final note that you should stay at your school; because your position is very great, socially of course it could be improved, but still.
You’re in a top girls private school which is incredible, and nowadays many people end up getting 99+ from these private schools, so your chance is higher at your current school than Ruse, because probabilistically you’d end up in a lower rank in Ruse because they go far too accelerated. It's just that, idk, my freind said my math can probably nreach their op 120? I forgot the number threshold for ex 2 math, and judging by my external tutoring (where I do beat a lot of ruse kids), I would say I'm fine in terms of math. I don't know whether I would get 99+ in my current school (like I'm not kidding, it's not just the scholarship kids, its like nearly 60 people trying to do well, and I genuinely cannot get better than them for some weird reason), and I'm not saying if I go to ruse I will have a chance to get 99+, but I think it will give me the push I need. Like rn I am very unmotivated and can't focus, even if I have like free hours in my afternoons. I probably have more to say but I can't think of anything rn
