But that's not fair if they got to do it twice, because by then, they could have studied their weaknesses as they know the exams content.
If I was the head of bos and that happened, i'd have made a back up paper and made them sit that :D
Exams can be written in 24hrs and thus they can sit one the next morning. But the thing is i highly doubt they would get you to do the same exam. You can practice your weakness simply by past papers as they have only so many ways they can ask a question. More likely then not, it is often just a change of verb, especially with extended responses.

No way buddy. One of my teachers who's a HSC marker told me that they start writing the exam like... a year in advance.

Wait, I'm confused now - does this mean that all science options and english paper 2 are sent to Newcastle and marked - even those from remote areas?
All papers for a particular subject or question are sent to the same centre - regardless of where in the world the paper was originally written.

The only exception would be those that arrive from overseas after the marking centre had moved the papers - and that can happen. I have been at a judging meeting with the BOS when the Supervising of Marking for Modern History was told that all the papers from Tonga or Samoa or somewhere had arrived and that he would have to mark them all that day. They had been delayed for some reason as they should have been here when we were marking but they missed the plane or something.

Ok thanks everyone, I think I get it now.

So around how many HSC markers are there? - this is the only question I'm unclear on now

I could honestly write a half decent paper in 24hours. Just get papers from all over the place and change value and alter the question. It cant be that hard.

If my physics teacher can write a paper in 6 hours for our prelim (quite a hard paper) and make it good then i cant see why 50+ people cant write a HSC exam paper in 24h, Each person can write one question and they would be done.

Hmm... I don't know.
I think the HSC papers are hard to write up...

Well i dont think they would be terribly hard considering the amount of people writing it. Other then the fact that it has to be read over by the person at the top which could take a bit of time, or else it wouldnt be that hard. Then again, we dont know what goes on the minds of those writing papers Etc

Annagurl: How come you have changed your avatar 3 or so times in the last couple of days? Just curious...

I have a stalker...
If they want to stalk you then there is nothing you can do about it unless you make a new account. (nothing on a small scale anyway)
My old man always said that if someone wants to break into your house then there is no fence large enough to prevent them (Lame analogy but thats the truth when we lived in a dodgy part of Penrith.)

I'm not that concerned. My house isn't easy to break into. Not only that, but we have 24 hour surveillance so I doubt someone could break and get away with it.
I haven't disclosed that much about myself on bos. I've only disclosed my name to certain individuals, what my school is roughly ranked, my age, my race and my subjects.
The guy that I refer to as the "stalker" goes to the same tutor as me, I just have no idea who he is atm. Maybe I overexaggerated when I referred to him as my stalker, but he knows a lot of intimate details of me such as people I know etc.
The second reason why I continued to change my avatar was because i'm an indecisive loser and I can't decide which picture to upload as my avatar D:

I orginally thought that an avartar isnt going to change anything as your user name is the same.
Why did you even disclose of your name to anyone here on BOS that you dont know personally. No one knows my name on here (atleast i dont think know) and i intend to keep it that way.

there's definitely one in north rocks, my st john ambulance division covers a first aid duty for their marking. in case they get papercuts or something, I guess :\
I'm pretty sure (at least some) computing subjects are marked at north rocks

Also this thread is on HSC marking centers not stalkers. Try and stay on topic, feel free to create a new topic

They guessed my name from my username :p
I didn't see a point in lying.
That's true... I also didn't expect people to notice my avatar change. It was meant to be subtle D:

The process for the HSC exams is a bit more convoluted than one for your school and includes teachers actually answering the exam in the time allowed. They take months of regular meetings and reviews to write each year's papers. I have even heard of occasions when the original paper was rejected by the BOS and some or all of it had to be redone. How accurate that report was I don't know but numerous teachers heard the same story the same year so....

They don't write one or two questions each but write entire sections of the paper and check that it can be done in the time. The sections have to be checked for parity across different options etc and that takes a lot of time (and they often don't really get that right).

They started writing this year's HSC papers late last year I believe and will have the draft ready in about a month or so with the final version not approved until about July - I have never been on an exam committee but that is the sort of time frame that one of the teachers at my school has explained to me about the writing of the 4 Unit Maths papers - and SC - both of which he had done over the years and the same procedure for both and for all subjects.

Very fair call indeed. Thats alot of time that goes into writing a paper.

Who decides how hard the paper is? And from what i have heard, on average the HSC (sciences) can be completed with 25-30min left (most kids at my school told me this, How accurate it is, i dont know) and my question is, how do the board decide what amount of work can be done in what amount of time.

For example do the people/teachers who sit the exam aim to get it done in like 1hour 45min at an average pace and then assume it would like an extra 30 minutes for students to complete it?
