    How accurate are SAM/UMAX?

Does anyone know the difference in the calculation methods used by each of the calculators? They're all based on the same underlying UAC scaling statistics, so why is it that they can be sometimes significantly different from each other?

Marks over 80 or 90 get extra 5 points?

Almost all unis have some sort of bonus point scheme, e.g. UNSW's HSC Plus. I know some of them don't have a centralised scheme, e.g. ANU, but each faculty makes up its own policy on bonus marks - can be hard to find, but they will give them.

    How accurate are SAM/UMAX?

SAM, UMAX and Einstein all estimated between 93.15-93.25. I ended up with 93.05, so only 0.10-0.20 off.

    English Standard

:( We should find out what the band 6 cutoff is for Standard. (BTW, your sig should say ATAR ;) )

will we be able to find out where our school ranked if its not in top 100

Does the term 'document' include online publications? I suppose we could potentially obtain the required stats under FOI, but it would be difficult in working out what to ask for.

    Clerical recheck help

Student Entries by Sex - 2009 HSC - Board of Studies NSW The course number is the number in brackets after the course name. (Alternatively, you can wait for the personalised recheck form in the post tomorrow or Monday, which I *think* lists all your courses and gives you checkboxes for each.)

As of last year most DFEE places have been withdrawn, so you can only apply for CSP (HECS-HELP) now.

    question about mx1 marks

Initially, they calculate all scores to decimal places. The rounding off is basically the last step, so I guess you could get an odd mark.

    state rankings below 10th

I got my state ranks for my accelerated subjects through FOI a few weeks ago :D

    93.05 - 0.2 below what I had predicted, but it's 10 points above the cutoff I need, so I'm happy :D

    SAM and Matrix Wrong?

Not if you're talking about the age-based/Year 7 cohort.

    ATAR log in

As far as I know, you don't access your ATAR through OAS, but rather through a separate application that will be linked at Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) - Apply for Australian tertiary study tomorrow. (OAS is just rejecting your number because you didn't make a NSW uni application.)

Wait...still confused. Which marks are these?

No, these are not raw marks. UAC will almost definitely scale downwards from the mark that you see today, except if you're doing Maths Extension 2, or you did extremely well (high band 6).
  14. ajdlinux

    100%, not first?

I believe it's because they calculate state rankings to decimal places, whereas the reported marks are rounded.
  15. ajdlinux

    is this our raw mark??

Only if you ask them politely and send them a cheque.

    1 or 2 Related Texts?

I wrote 2 ORTs, and got 76, but I'm doing Standard so there was never much hope of getting above 80.

    hsc mark

It's calculated on the raw marks that the Board of Studies gives them, including both raw exam marks and raw moderated assessment marks. There's plenty of explanation about this that you can find over in the ATAR forum and on the UAC website.
