It would all depend on their marks, and how hard they worked. If a person did well in Extension Maths, they would probably get scaled better than someone who did just as well in General or 2u (Adv) Maths. However in saying that, the person doing Extension Maths would probably be working harder...

Well IPT doesnt scale that great, it averages ~ 23, and average scaling for a subject is about 25. But by all means do it if you like the subject.

Nothing officially makes your marks go down. You might be scaled down a little, but if you manage to do well and get a mark of 90+, you won't get scaled down. But in saying that... a lot of people have told me IPT is soo boring. So I'd drop it.

I'm not sure if you HAVE to learn the 2unit Advanced Maths Course if you are doing Ext 2 Mathematics, BUT I'm pretty sure if you don't understand the 2u Advanced Course then you probably won't get Ext 1 and Ext 2 Maths, so it would be wise to learn it. At my school, they try and make it easier...

As everyone else said, you're doing fine. Having 'those type of people' will only count against you if either they - disrupt you from doing your work, therefore you will get crap marks OR - they manage to beat you. Otherwise if you keep coming within the Top 10, then you should be fine.
