everyone needs to calm down. i do not just limit myself to finding music which is played on the radio, tv, e.c.t. if i did do you think its possible that i found artists like Victor Wooten, Chuck e wise, duke ellington... and heaps of others. i also get music tastes from soundtracks from movies, if i hear a song i like i go find it.

my whole argument originally was against the mainstream rock which the masses generally listen too. i guess i didnt specify this enough when i started becuase i didnt think it would cause much trouble but obviously i was wrong. i do acknowledge that there still is good music being produced, and that yes it is harder to find. by my opinion was that the mainstreame music which gets this airtime isnt really great, and that i found i was looking into the past of the 70's, where i thought mainstream music then was better. again, an opinion of taste.

and to the other posters enough of the malmsteen bashing or any technically proficient musician. i don't get it, there are world class pianists that have superb techincal skill. they ofcourse play fast as well as slow and such because they're technically proficient at their instrument. i've never heard somebody say about a world class pianist "oh what a wanker he/she is playing so fast, what fast soulless runs". why the fuck do people all of a sudden do this to guitar players?
i actually dont like those types of solo's, i agree that they are souless runs. by playing fast like that it does seem a bit shallow because you dont have time to examine the way its done. if its just speed speed speed then you cant break it down into bits and pieces you like or dont like because you dont get a chance.

Oh,oh-oh! You see, the kids these days, they listen to the rap music, which gives them the brain damage. With the hippin' and the hoppin' and the bippin' and the boppin', they don't know what the jazz is all about. Y'see, jazz is like Jello pudding... no, that's not it. Jazz is like Kodak film... no, that's not right neither. I've got it, jazz is like the new Coke - it'll be around forever.

jazz is the heart and soul of music.
listen to ella fitzgerald , that woman has it going on. she puts everything she owns into her songs. so much emotion, she takes me away with every note.

i will agree the 70's and 60's music is really food

Carole King
Frank Zappa (he is later though)
Jethro Tull
Hendrix

I find it quite hilarious that you are bagging him out when you have a picture of Prince in his underwear for an avatar. I like Prince but seriously. Get a job.

im no music theory expert but from what i know (not much) jazz is an extremely pure and complex style of music.

i love it beacuse isn't not about the words or whether the musicians look good. its about the music.

take miles davis for example ever heard of his albumn "kind of blue" it has sold more copies than any other classic jazz albumn in the world.

each song was recorded live in a studio in one take.

if you asked some one to do that now they would choke on their emo hair styles and die.

those guys were geniuses.

now musicians pay session people to record the songs that they probably didn't even write

not sure where this is going but you get the vibe.

i also hate the fact that music is not longer about ablums as it is about a single.

who cares if some one can write one good song and then make a video clip of themselves dancing around with girls.

back in the day they used to make albumns of music that was related to a theme and they werent afraid to put in a solo.

take pink floyds "the wall." here my friends is an example of music genius at work. how much i would give to have been at one of the performances of that i don't know.

live performances have also got worse.
look at zed zep whats wrong woth a 20 min drum solo, its better than lip sync ing along to a backing trac.

all you need now for "good rock"? is to know how to play 3 power chords and have a bit of distortion and your good to go.

ring in a song writer and session guitarists and you have got a hot single

next do you make up and lip sync alone to the songs the sound tec puts on and you have got your self a concert.

ok im done

Ror, I hope you know that Led Zep were, according to most accounts, shit live. Furthermore, all post 1969 Pink Floyd = boring, overrated and written no less for mass-consumption than the pop music of today. Same for most of the shit genavania listed.

i feel you ror. esp with regards to Kind of Blue! that is just genius. apparently they barely rehearsed it, just did it a few times before hand and boom! ur on! where are our genius’s like that? I feel cheated, why do my parents get to have all the fun!?! Now im stuck wading through 50 cent and Madona. :(:(:(:( I know people say you have to look hard to find the good stuff but I don’t think that’s good enough actually! I think the good stuff should be on my radio without me having to look! Or at that rate, you have to have a mind so open youre constantly finding that you have to turn the radio down for fear someone mite hear what youre listening to! How embarrassing.

i cant understand why you people are so anti-50 Cent

if you dont like his music then ok dont listen to it but why do you hate HIM so much?

Curtis James Jackson III grew up in the South Side of Jamaica, Queens, New York in poverty-stricken circumstances. When he was eight years old, his mother was murdered in her home in a drug deal, and 50 Cent moved in with his grandparents. He soon became immersed in the drug trade, hustling around his native neighborhood by the name of "Boo Boo." Later he was consequently shot 9 times and stabbed

coming from that to where he is today is an amazing achievement and the man deserves respect for it.

well, just to make you burn even more....listen to this

Having achieved multi-platinum success with both albums, he has become one of the most successful rappers of all time, selling around 22 million albums worldwide....add to that his movie, his book, his clothing line, his shoes, his watch company, his water drink (formula 50), his sex toy line, his video game, his future movies with samuel L jackson and nicholas cage and of course his record label G Unit Records

oh and you probably didnt know that he runs a nonprofit organisation called the G-Unity Foundation, which aims to better the life of urban youth.

get used to him cause he aint goin nowhere

well, I name him because he is the most popular rapper, as you pointed out. wow, thats an amazing life.... not sure thats what were talking about here tho. his music is still terrible in my eyes, i preffer Scribe :uhhuh: there just seems more to gain from someone like him than 50 Cent. if i didnt find it so sexist i might give it more of a try but its just SOOO obviously there for one thing most of the time... cant stand it. oh, and i dont reserve that exclucively for 50, i find loads of rappers annoying :)

that’s the epitome of a mainstream, commercialised rapper. no wonder people associate rap and shit together! use better example next time kid.. i would giv him more cred if he promote his charity work & encourage other to be involve rather then promoting his movie, blings, clothing line & association with famous holywood actors ect

I once again notice that everyone is taking this to heart. If the guy doesnt like hip hop then he doesnt like hip hop. Is he bagging it out? NO, he is expressing an opinion.

I will probably be crucified for this, and again, i stress that this is my opinion.
Since the real kick off of rap music i find that rock essentially has been forgotten. i do not like the style of rap, as i am all for the idea that music should be played, not created electronically through computors only. Rap musicians have saturated the music industry, and i really really dislike their music.
Yeah that's really not bagging it out on the VERY LIMITED hearing he's allowed for it.

Have some respect or i will have to tread on you:)
That a threat?

well, 50 Cent cant control wat kids do

the subject matter in his music is about 'grown up' things so kids shouldnt even be listening to it

there are warnings on all his CDs about the language and themes and its up to the parents to be aware of this

however, kids these days want to rebel against their parents and unfortunately many use 50 Cent as their 'tool' to do this, giving him a bad name even though he hasnt done anything

also, what pisses me off is that in my experience, 50 Cent haters hate him because of candy shop and P.I.M.P which leads me to believe that people who hate him only hear his radio singles and judge him based on that handful of songs

what i say to you is that with the exeption of In Da Club (great song), his radio singles r at best average and the best stuff is definately not played on the radio

for example, listen to Patiently Waiting from GRODT or Dont Push Me from the same album....or Im Supposed To Die Tonight on The Massacre

great songs but not played on the radio

G G G G G G Unit!!!!! (lol just fucking with you)

The real question I have is: Why is there two thread with almost the same thing happening:

Shimmer 7: I'm a tool. Look at my leet music skills. Rap sucks, I play jazz. But no nothing about construction, composition, dynamics, hooks, harmonies etc. Lyricism is easy, Nu-rock sucks. I don't know anything. I have leet music skills. I swear, but I type like I'm twelve and my childish view do nothing to prove otherwise. I swear I'm leet. I don't care about your views cause I'm leet. People who play music are with me, isn't that right boys? (these people turn away hope not to be notice or actively attack your ideas) music now has no soul not like back in the day (you do realise their were people in the 70's saying the same thing about their contempory music. )In closing, I'm a tool.

Everyone else who isn't shit: You're an idiot.

Stop dissing on rap unless you want me to bust example and put you to shame. (this not a open invitation to just posting rap lyrics. I'll do it if it comes to it, I know the perfect examples and can explain exactly why and how Shimmer 7 is wrong.)

Damn right Bill. Jazz is the centre of music. Almost everystyle relates to jazz cause everything is based on it. I'll give rap this, Eminem is a good lyricist..............:) I think thats about it. But Shimmerz is right, mainstream is nothing compared to other music which is out there.

By the way captain gh3y, how many accounts have you read? Have you ever spoken to anyone who has seen either bands live or seen a recording if them live? If you have then you would know that bands like Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Floyd and The who were some of the best acts in the whole of the 1970's, two of which were the loudest bands in the world and were rated in the top 4 live acts, according to Rolling Stone Mags from the time

My logic is that you are bagging him out for his music taste when you have a picture of a guy in his underwear who really needs to stop his music career while he's ahead. Musicology was great but this new album was pretty ordinary. Plus the fact that your a guy with this picture maybe a bit sus. Unless you swing that way, then ignore everything i just said.
