I'm currently in the midst of writing my Personal Interest Project for my SAC class. I've decided to focus on how multicultural adolescents struggle with their identity but I've gotten stuck with my chapter topics since my topic doesn't have much room to expand. I was thinking for my first chapter to delve into identity from a multicultural and monocultural individuals, talking about the struggle of choosing between different beliefs, morals, etc and their socialisation process. For my third chapter I'm thinking of writing about the revitalisation of culture and gather an insight on how parents are allowing their child to be closer to their culture.

But now I'm stuck on my second chapter? Does anyone have any ideas? Also, do you think my current chapters are worth writing about or should I take a different approach?

Thank you :)

Perhaps your second chapter could entail a focus on cultural assimilation? You mentioned that, in your first chapter, you intend to highlight perceptions of identity from monocultural and multicultural individuals, including the difficulty of choosing between different beliefs and such. Based on this, your second chapter can discuss the relevance of cultural assimilation to your chosen topic, that is, the influences exerted by cultural assimilation on both monocultural and multicultural individuals. This means that you will possibly need to elaborate on aspects relevant to immigration, such as the distinction and choice between preserving an individual's original culture(s), or resembling the dominant/majority group, being Australians because, as you may already be aware, not every immigrant will maintain a strong connection between themselves and their homeland/culture(s).

Subsequently, you can begin your third chapter, where you can elaborate on the revitalisation of culture and the manner in which parents can enable their child(ren) to develop a connection with their respective culture(s) as you stated. Ultimately, should you consider this path, the resulting structure would be as follows:
  1. Difficulties faced by monocultural and multicultural individuals.
  2. Relevance and influences of cultural assimilation on monocultural and multicultural individuals.
  3. Revitalisation of culture and the role of parents in terms of exposing their children to their respective culture(s).
I hope this helps! 😄
