lol, 4 hours for 2U maths and 2 hours for ext1 per week. should be vice versa imo lol. i reckon there should be no standard as to hwo many hours one should study per week. you study depending on your strengths and weaknesses and where u need it etc. if u need 1 hour to study gen maths and 6 hours to study chem..go 4 gold
Those 'standards' are just guidelines, its not as though most people rigidly stick to them

Don't even bother with the standards. Just do what you feel comfortable doing. If you want to put in 5 hours a day go for it. If you want to do half an hour, then do that. And you don't have to do it ever day. Take a break.

In all, making the most efficient use of class time is the best and most effective thing you can do.

Study Habits

Hey 09ers well its well into first term now, is a study pattern coming into place? How many hours are u studying for? is your "timetable" working?

For me personally, my computer is a BIG procasting and its so annoying there is either messsage on BOS to go on or bebo or any other social networking site!!!

Anyways, just post your tip and how or how you arent studying!!

No timetable as of yet.

No set amount of studying.

I just make up a priority list. But in general, I do about 3 hours a day? probably less if I got other stuff.

Re: Study Habits

Well, I think I'm doing quite well with my study so far. Regarding timetable: only really wrote mine up a few days ago- I've managed to study without it- but I think it'll get me more focused :)

AND I finished my english speech a few days in advance of due date! That's a BIG thing for me, I always used to complete them the night before ;)

Re: Study Habits

I am amazed that anyone could be so motivated so soon in
Havent really found the time to dedicate to 'studying' to busy either with assessements and homework...and various time wasting activities
In any case, im consoling myself with the fact that i will do lots of work these holidays...thats the plan in anycase

Re: Study Habits

When HSC exams come around, disconnect your computer. It's painful, and super hard to follow through with, but it works.

Re: Study Habits

i wanted to be prepared for yr 12 early on so right after my prelim yrlies ( wk 4 term 3 ) i got my bf to change my msn passwrds, so nw i cdnt get on. I used to b on msn 24/7 literally, now i forget i even had it, seriously after a while you dont miss it. Deleted my bebo & fb around that time as well.

As for the study timetable, i dont know if anyone else noticed, or if its just me, buts its really hard to discipline yourself ? as in make a timetable and force urself to follow it ? so what i did instead was, fall into a habit from day 1 term 4

i come home, watch abt 20mins of tv while eating late lunch/early dinner. Then around 4 - 6 ish i take a nap ( depending on when i get home because school finishes diff times every day ) . I sleep till 8 exactly every day

At 8 i wake up, drink some tea/coffee. Go downstairs to the study where there is no computer and i can study right up 1- 2 am with no distractions or anything as such. Il take breaks inbetween ofc. usually for dinner at around 9-10ish where i will watch some tve with it. And a telephone convo late at night, doesnt take up oto much time though because i have around 6hrs to spare.

THe sleep during the day full renergizes me. =)

and then i sleep arnd 2ish, wake up 6.30 for school and yup i have energy all day. THing is unlike a study timetbale which u can just ignore, making a habit ( ie; nap time LOL ) your body gets used to it so you cant ignore it

and its really helpful.
Ive been finishing all my assessmnt takes 2 wks prior to due date, getting htem marked, and re editing them till theyre ' perfect '

Plenty of time to relax because youre already ahread. No stress.

I make notes as i go every night covering what i did in class to implant it in my head, and i read over the dot point well be doing the next day.

And usually recess or lunch il spend fixing up notes aswell.

Weekends are usually quite lazy because my weekdays are pretty full on. So half the weekend i just relax, socialise, bum around . hehe . =)

anyways thats my two cents;)
sorry its soo long ><

Re: Study Habits

im just putting in time for subjects which have assesments this term, i.e. im not gonna touch physics or chem this term except for the bare minimum homework required, but tuition covers everything anyway, going hard out for everything else except SOR1. I personally think study timetables never work, well maybe for the first 2 days, but then after u might as well just throw it in the bin, unless u consider yourself a follower a strict military regime daily.

Hah study timetables are never stuck to, I think the best method of study is to do your homework. But not restricting yourself to simply what the teacher sets you but going out and really understanding the concepts learned in class.

Ie. Say Mr Bobby SMith gave you parametrics homework from Fitzpatrick, DO it then go to Success one and do all the parametrics questions... then perhaps if you have time do the parametrics questions from cambridge...and so forth. THat way you dont leave it all to before your exams and you get a bit done everyday. Also I reckon if you study too hard you burn out quickly, a reasonable amount of study a day keeps you motivated...

Thats my two cents....

Exams approaching too quickly...Advice required.

The thought of 'screwing' up your first HSC assessments daunts most of us, as we'd rather be looking forward to getting our results back during the holidays with this fresh start, rather than continuosly worrying about it.

The thread title basically encapsulates it all...I'm in need of desperate advice. All of my exams besides Biology are squashed up in Week 9.

Week 9 Exams:

Monday - Physics module test.
Tuesday - English Speech.
Wednesday - 7:20am - 3U Maths, 2:10pm - 4U Maths :uhoh:. I despise this day.
Thursday - 2U Maths, Chemistry module test. Not as bad as Wednesday...but still :(.

Week 10:

Monday - Biology module test.

What would be your ways of approaching the next week if you've haven't prepared adequately at all for each subject? How would your timetable look like for these exams? Is it too late? :(

I was thinking of using my HSC dotpoint textbook and finishing each module per science. Then I write another set of notes on an A4 exercise book, and finally, past papers. But it seems too much, because I have 4U to prepare for also. Gah.

I'm thinking of making a timetable whilst being extremely dedicated to it. It's easier said than done, but I believe I can stick to it for these 2 long weeks.

Would anyone happen to have any other pieces of advice for the overall exam week and these subjects? I'm starting to stress.

Thanks.

sciences - dot point/past papers. don't write notes, useless waste of time.

maths - diagnostic tests + past papers.

english - who cares

Re: Exams approaching too quickly...Advice required.

First of all, relax. The very first set of exams in this term won't hurt you much even if you stumble little bit as they will be quite insignificant in terms of weightings.

Secondly, look over your subjects. See what your strengths and weaknesses are. Look over the weightings for each assessment. Higher the weighting, the more you should focus on that particular subject.

Thirdly, if you are really behind, it is better to refer to someone else's note for some subjects. For maths, just do questions and past papers.

Making a priority list would be good by the way...

Usually the first HSC assessments won't be as 'tough' so there's nothing to worry about. Just make sure you revise your work a few days before the exam and make sure you know your concepts. No need to stress Reshad, I'm sure you'll be fine.
