Mid tiers don't 'compete' with big 4. They will ding you immediately if they know or suspect you already have a big 4 offer unless you're super convincing that God placed you on this Earth to work for their firm.

Also note that the big 4 aren't only competing against each other but also against other employers like corporates and banks. It just makes no sense to lose their picking of the best talent just so they can abide by some voluntary code of conduct. Also are the offer deadlines still the same...

Do note that these rankings measure the overall strength and reputation of the firm's entire tax practice. Naturally, each firm will be stronger in some areas than others. For example, EY is particularly strong in the media sector while PwC is a powerhouse in financial services.

Whilst its true that there's more places generally available come graduate apps since many companies don't have summer programs, if you want to work in a particular firm which DOES have a summer program, it's actually a lot tougher to get in come graduate recruitment, in terms of the applicants...
