do you have any advice to help a new uni student to get good grades?

Most lecturers make overheads or powerpoint slides with all the important notes on them, so you just write them down as you listen to them talking. Very few just talk at you and expect you to get down any relevant points. If they do just talk-they usually comment on what bits to be writing down...

Overall, I'd say Jeff Buckleys voice is better...but who the fuck else can scream like Matt Bellamy? 10 points just for that.

    bridging courses?

Well, I guess the content will depend on your course, but I do a health subject (Speech Path), and what Dreamer said is basically right-you just need to understand the basic principles and stuff. A few of my friends did the bridging course and said it was helpful, but personally-I didn't do...

    University transport fee

I don't think thats true. I have friends that have to drive over an hour each way, and they don't get anything. If there is such a payment, I'd say it is based on more than just how long it takes you to travel...

    World Idol Aftermath

The supposed "top 10 worst auditions" were not all that bad. And they only included a few of the countries in there, so obviously they just whipped that bit up and stuck it in the show for a nice time-filler, along with the horrible performances by Elton John and Posh Spice.

    University transport fee

It doesn't matter how far away you live or how you travel, because you can use a student concession whether you are travelling to UNI or not. Everyone would get the same deal.

    working to uni standard

We didn't get any help learning how to set out assignments and stuff. although apparently some peopel at different UNIs had like a seminar thing early in the semester to help. We weren't really told how to reference, we just got given a very outdated and sketchy guide that proved incredibly...

    University transport fee

Yep, your student ID card works as a concession card, and you'll get that when you enrol.

do you have any advice to help a new uni student to get good grades?

Well, they did mark pretty strictly seeing as we were getting such a sweet deal. And it wasn't just a subject where you could get the information out of a textbook, you had to really do your homework and think about it. Most people got around the same mark...one of my friends actually failed it...

Free transport...I wish! :( How much do I miss my high school train pass!?

    urgent: important uni days

The only thing you really have to turn up for is enrollment. I found the orientation day a bit of a waste of time, although you should go if you can.

The Crocodile Hunter pulls a Michael Jackson

Whoa, scary... *kicks you in the shin for good measure*

And I have come to expect this sort of instant reprisal from you, AGB...

The Crocodile Hunter pulls a Michael Jackson

I don't think he was as terribly irresponsible as he was made out to be. He does know what he is doing, even if it seems a little eccentric to us. If I saw some regular person off the street doing the same thing with their child I would be concerned, but this is different. Of course there was...

    More people prefer USYD!

lol-the title of this thread sounds like a commercial. "78 percent of students who tried Sydney UNI were convinced to come back for second semester!"

Um, is there even a question? I do love radiohead, but Jeff Buckley was a fucking God. Hands down winner!
  17. B

do you have any advice to help a new uni student to get good grades?

No, they can run the course however they please. They don't even have to set exams if they don't want, they could base their final marks just on assessment tasks if they thought it was appropritate. (I actually did wonder why they didn't just give us the essay questions as an assessment rather...

do you have any advice to help a new uni student to get good grades?

You think thats good...our sociology lecturer in first semester gave us the exact, word for word exam questions 3 weeks before the exam so we could pre-prepare our answers! And even then I only got a stoopid credit. :(

50% of uni students fail at least one subject.

I think the 50% figure sounds pretty accurate...although maybe it was meant to apply for a certain course? I reckon around 50% of the people I know of in my course have failed a subject...and we have only done 1 year so far! :(

    Tutorials- That first day

wtf we didn't have any tutes like this! We jumped straight into work, no friendly intos, no nothing. Me and my friends were actually wishing we could have played some getting to know you games...they seem horribly lame and in high school, but in UNI when you know no-one they suddenly seem...
